As the global population climbs toward 7 billion, consumption is producing vast amounts of waste which requires processing. California ships more than 22 million tons of waste to landfills every year. Landfill sites can contaminate local soil, water and air quality which may threaten human health and require expensive remediation efforts. Recycling helps to curb this accumulation by cycling the waste stream back into consumption. To limit the environmental damaged inflicted on our society it is increasingly critical to properly manage our collective resources. Do you want to read more about recycling in PDF? Electronic Waste:
Non-functioning electronic devices such as televisions, computer monitors, etc. must be separated from garbage. Any functioning electronic devices should be disposed of only if necessary in order to prolong their life-cycle. If your computer contains sensitive personal information, be sure to clear its memory before discarding.
Motor Oil:
When recycled, motor oil can be cleaned and renewed. This not only prevents oil being added to the waste stream contributing to contamination, but prevents further extraction of limited petroleum hydrocarbon resources. Recycling motor oil is good for the environment and your bank account: CalRecycle offers 40 cents per gallon of used oil at oil recycling centers.
Car Tires:
Do your best to prolong the lifecycle of your car tires by maintaining proper tire pressure. When it is time to replace your tires, leave your last set with the shop. Tire derived products recycle by using tires for a number of applications including asphalt, building construction, and playground safety.
